Dallas Love Field Utilizes New Communications Capability to Protect and Serve the Traveling PublicDALLAS – (August 25, 2006) Love Field airport is at the threshold of a new capability that unifies all first responders in emergencies. Governor Rick Perry said “Texas will employ a network approach using the demonstrated leadership at local and regional levels through the Texas Councils of Government and adherence to DHS technical requirements for wireless public safety communications and interoperability. This plan leverages existing radio systems rather than the costly replacement of the existing public safety radio infrastructure in Texas.” This approach and new interoperability capabilities will be unveiled in a press conference scheduled for Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the main conference room at Dallas Love Field. In May of 2005, the State of Texas was awarded a $979,100 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Dallas Love Field was chosen because it has an abundance of critical infrastructure located in a major urban metropolitan area with a high concentration of diverse responder agencies and private sector entities. The Dallas Love Field (DLF) project was produced in collaboration with the City of Dallas, the State of Texas Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Chief Information Office with the goal of implementing a communications framework that could be cost effectively duplicated throughout the State of Texas and the nation. Participants in the Dallas network include the City of Dallas, Police, Fire, and Aviation Departments; the State of Texas Departments of Public Safety and Department of Health; the Transportation Security Administration; Customs and Border Protection; the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as Southwest Airlines. The City of Dallas will host the press conference and will be joined by representatives of the local, state and federal agencies involved with this project. “We all have an expanded role in protecting our homeland and to do so, we need secure interoperable communications” said Mark Tucker, CEO CoCo Communications. He went on to state that “CoCo exists to help our nation become a safer, stronger America. We are pleased that CoCo technology has facilitated a new level of information sharing and integration among participating agencies striving to fulfill critical missions for the City of Dallas, surrounding regional jurisdictions, the State of Texas, and the Department of Homeland Security." |
